Memphis Botanic Garden— Blecken Pavilion

Background

Ann and Bob Blecken, longtime supporters of the botanic garden, had a vision to build an organic pavilion that blended with the surrounding landscape to create a serene backdrop for public events like weddings and casual gatherings. The design focused on incorporating the site’s natural elements through the use of materials, capturing views and selection of surrounding plantings. “In the winter, when the leaves are off the trees, you can see the lake and red-drum bridge in the Japanese garden,” Ann has said of the pavilion’s site selection. “I think it’s the most gorgeous setting in the world.”
