Mike Rose Soccer Complex
Background
The Shelby County Conservation Board developed this 120-acre complex to respond to the growing number of young soccer participants living in the expanded-county residential community in southeast Shelby County, Tenn. The site, designed similar to a pinwheel to most efficiently direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic, includes 16 lighted practice fields with stadium seating for 8,000. The complex includes concessions, maintenance facilities, restrooms, team lockers, exercise and emergency medical space, a five-acre lake and picnic gazebo. Tree buffers also are a prominent design element that impact the surrounding neighborhoods and reduce light pollution.
