Mitchell High School

Background

An entirely new campus replaced this 1950s-built high school. The substantial phased renovation and replacement included adding three buildings—a classroom wing, gymnasium and 800-seat auditorium. The project was completed over four years, with the gymnasium being the only remaining building from the original campus. The classroom building now features state-of-the-art science and technology labs, and a library and cafeteria, both of which use daylighting techniques. The new auditorium includes a performance stage, fly loft and stagecraft shop. An addition to the front of the existing gym replaces inadequate toilet facilities and lobby, and provides a façade that blends with the design of the new classroom and auditorium buildings. The campus also includes a fully functioning performing arts theater with art labs and a band room.
